Reckless and Stupid

Reckless.
Stupid.
Selfish.
Sadistic.
Childish.
Delusional.
Lying.
Psychopathic.
Evil.
Chaotic.
Dangerous.
Petty.
Insane.

I have to take a break from the news now and then.  I'm thankful for the hour and a half of peaceful yoga this morning.  This American dictator is reckless, selfish and stupid.  Not to mention a psychopath.  Shame on the people who voted him in.  Look what they did!  I can count on one hand the number of people that I know for sure that actually voted for him.  I realize that we are a democracy (for the time being, anyway) and all are entitled to their votes but I have a difficult time getting past it in any personal interactions with these Trumpers.  This is the way that I feel and until our first amendment rights are taken away (which may be sooner than we think -- ex: "the media should keep its mouth shut"), I have the right to express my disappointment and my resentment.  I blame them, yes I do, these Trumpers.  I am frustrated and terrified for this country.

Signs, Signs, Everywhere are Signs

The last time I got politically active was in 1969.  I was in high school and there was a scheduled walk-out during 4th period class, at 12:00 pm.  I can’t remember exactly what the protest was about – it was either the Viet Nam war or the food in the cafeteria.  What did I know?  I was a mere sixteen years-old and had not a clue of the world yet.

This time, almost fifty years later, I know all too well why I chose to participate in the Philadelphia Women’s March.  I want to call it what it really was.  It was a protest, a message to the new administration.  We did NOT vote for you, we disapprove of your despicable behavior, attitudes and comments, and you represent all that is unholy is a world that needs to be made kinder and more accepting.  We will resist and hold your feet to the fire as you attempt to diminish the progress that has been made over the last fifty years.  I had the distinct good fortune to attend this historical event with two women whom I greatly admire. They are both members belonging to a special group of which I am proud to be a part (strong moms of children with developmental disabilities).  They are role models, heroes to me and good friends -- Rosalie and Michele.  Fran couldn't come but she was with us in spirit.

I was so glad to be in my corner of the world for this national/worldwide phenomenon.  It is something that, if I did not do, I would have regrets.  Deep regrets.  The event itself was wonderful.  The speeches were inspiring and passionate.  Peaceful, considerate women, and some men, milled, marched and carried sentiments on signs and posters, in a shared solidarity against hate and sexism, zenophobia and racism.

My favorite part was the originality and effort put into the protest signs.

An Incoherent American Rant

This morning I woke up sad for my country (grief stage:depression).  I realized that, like over 50% of Americans, I am working through the five stages of grief.  The loss is great.  I wanted Hillary to win!

On Wednesday I was shocked (stage:disbelief), unbelieving of the incredulous election results.  On Thursday, I was angry! How could this compassionless, egomaniacal, mean, childish, spiteful, maniac be our new president?  How can his deplorable behavior have been rewarded by making him the leader of the free world? What the hell is wrong with people? (Guess I’ll be in this anger stage for a while.)  In thoughtful moments, I consider the possibility that I must be insulated, out of touch with all of those voters who think that DT (I can’t even type his disgusting name) is going to change their lives for the better.  He won’t.  My life is good.  I guess so many others are looking for an answer.  Two more stages to go (bargaining and acceptance).  I will never get to acceptance!  Ever!

I want to join the protests, too!  But I don’t know what it would accomplish.  Maybe it would be best to sleepwalk through the next four years, paying as little attention as possible to President Psychopath, and hopefully make it through to the other side relatively intact.  I just don’t know.  I am hoping that he will be true to form, do something atrocious and illegal as president, and voila! Impeachment proceedings ensue, followed by removal from office. (It just occurred to me that I have reached the bargaining stage.) Hoping the offense is committed by by February 2017, too.  Now, that would leave us with Pence as president, also a terrible choice, but one easier to ignore for a couple of years.
