| Pretty soon... and more. |
It’s a beautiful evening. Warm, but not hot, low humidity, not a cloud in the soft blue sky. A packet of red poppy seeds came tucked into the pages of our daily newspaper last week and I sowed them in a small planter and placed it in a sunny location. Then I looked around at the perennial garden, my perennial garden, now very green and becoming quite lush. The color will come soon enough. There will be bursts of lemon daylilies, fiery red cannas (thanks to my brother-in-law thinning the decorative growth around his pool this past spring), golden-hued black-eyed susans, frothy lavender wisps reaching high from the center of giant hostas, recently added candy-pink geraniums and the delight and surprise of all the flowers that I forgot that I planted as the years went by. That’s the fun of it.
My next door neighbor in Ohio taught me about flowers and gardening long ago. I ALWAYS think of Melissa whenever I plant something.
