Red, White and Eew

I don’t have much experience with thrift shopping; I am sort of squeamish by nature of this type of pursuit so it was more than a few steps out of my comfort zone to check out the immense inventory of Red, White and Blue. A recent experience in Princeton – a small, beautiful shop called Jane – misled me to believe that all secondhand shopping experiences are created equal.  They are not.  I could barely afford some of the designer treasures in Jane – that’s how nice the store was.  I wonder, though, if Jane may be considered a consignment shop (it is, I just googled it), which would explain the upscale items, rather than a thrift shop, where items are donated.  In any case, RW&B seems to be an establishment that serves a noble purpose in this economy, but just not my cup of tea (there were some cracked teacups there, too).  As my sister described it, “skeevatz.”   It’s two days later and I’m still a bit itchy.

  1. Well you saved me a trip, was thinking of visiting Red White and Blue, sometimes things just don't work out. There is a furniture consignment shop on rt.70 that sounded great and I made the trip thinking a white leather sofa might be there forget about it what I gave to Purple Veterans was gorgeous compared to the garbage in the store,I wouldn't even take some of the accesories.I guess the only way you can be sure is what you get from family or friends. We have purchased many things from one of my friends who changes her decor at the drop of a hat.The French provincal loveseat in my living room was from John's house and the price was great we paid nothing. I am still in the market for a sofa for the den maybe with this economy some place will have a blowout sale and I can pick something up.

  2. Maybe some place will have a great sale. A white leather sofa (for your den?) sounds beautiful with all the blue in there. Did you ever try "The Dump?" I went there once and again I couldn't get past the dump concept but they are supposed to have some great buys. How nice that you got that elegant loveseat from John. Now you may be passing on a table and chairs to mom. Nice to keep it all in the family. Love, Linda

  4. It was something that I wanted to investigate. I just thought that it would be more like Jane. In any case, Judi and I went out for a final lunch out before she returned to work. Take care. Keep enjoying that mini vacation for all that it's worth! Love, Lin
