Things I Remember About October 18, 1975

  1. An early cup of coffee with my dad in the quiet kitchen.
  2. My dog Terri running away.  I vowed to call off the wedding until he was home safe and sound. He obviously returned.
  3. Going to the salon to get my hair done, à la Saturday Night Fever style.
  4. Weighing 126 pounds.
  5. Dut and my cousin Pat, both so beautiful as maid of honor and bridesmaid.
  6. The ride to church in the white limo, driven by Mr. S., old family friend.
  7. Nervously walking down the aisle on the white carpet with dad, hanging tightly on his arm.
  8. Seeing Joe waiting at the altar, a goofy, happy grin on his face.
  9. Being unable to keep my left arm from nervously swinging back and forth during the ceremony.
  10. Two priests celebrating our wedding mass, one from our parish and one a family friend of Joe’s.
  11. Rice.  They still threw it then.
  12. The reception.  Champagne, roast beef, peas and mashed potatoes, none of which I ate.  I was not very hungry that day.
  13. Aunt Stella complaining that the music was too loud.
  14. Joe picking up his sax to join his band for a number.
  15. Carol, Joe’s sister, catching the bouquet.
  16. George, my friend Nancy’s future husband (sadly both are gone now), catching the garter.
  17. Leaving the reception in the pouring rain.   Rain on your wedding day is supposed to be good luck. Guess it was – 37 years worth.

Hard to believe that I was ever this young!

Dut and me.

With my dad.  Boy, do I miss him.
You can't tell in this picture but the color of the tux
was dark green.  He hated wearing it.
He referred to himself all that day as
a fat little grasshopper.

With mom.  She was younger than I am now.

Saint John Vianney Church.

The wedding party.

With my parents.

Check out that tux on the sax player.

    1. Thank you, Kim. I bought that dress in Kansas City, Missouri when I was still working for Hallmark. I found it in one day and paid only about $300 (pretty reasonable even by the standards of the day). Hope all is well with you. Linda

  2. Lin, i check your blog at least once a day and somehow I missed this?!! happy anniversary to you and Joe. you are a couple I admire, and you both still look SO GOOD after 37 years. i adore these photos. everyone looks so great. i cried seeing Aldo and Edith, just missing him. And Edith looked so beautiful. What I also remember is the squares of wedding cake which intrigued me, Joe's dad and mom, Uncle Harry, and a big group of us driving down the NJ Turnpike to the wedding. I was pressed next to JJ in the back seat and complaining about it. My mother told me to stop. I love this post. it made my day. you having coffee with Uncle Aldo! love, al xoxo p.s. congrats on weight goal. so awesome.

    1. You must have all been so squished. You, your mom and dad, Will, Sis, JJ and his girlfriend (I think he brought her, too). So 7 people... there must have been a bench seat in the front. Anyway, thanks for coming:)

I love that picture of my dad. Aside from the fancy suit, his face and weight are exactly how I will always remember him, not the person who no longer resembled him at the end of his life. Alice, I miss him so much, just like I know that you miss Uncle John. I wish they were still here. Uncle Anthony, too.

      Love, Lin
