The Number

Uh-oh.
Every Thursday at 10AM for the past ten months I have been faithfully showing up for my Weight Watcher weigh-in day/meeting (give or take a week here or there for extenuating circumstances, usually due to my mother).  It has been a slow but relatively steady poundage melt. But last week I was up 1.8 for no discernible reason whatsoever.  Yikes!  The week before, up 0.8.  What is happening?  Is my body rebelling at the idea of goal weight?  What is goal weight, you ask?  Well, maybe you are polite enough not to ask.  Not saying, but it is visible from this current vantage point.  For a lifetime member, WW considers anything within two pounds of “the goal number” as being there.

To shake up things for the final stretch (and maybe, hopefully, jump start a final loss), last week I decided to forgo the Points Plus system that has become second nature and try the Simply Filling method.  Guess what?  It worked!  Down 2.4!  I am officially five pounds from actual goal and a mere three from “the accepted number.”

And I like the SF program, too.  I didn’t think that I would, really.  But it’s working well for me, perhaps because I have become so accustomed to correct portion sizes and my stomach may have actually shrunk, as they say.  On SF you just eat until you are comfortably full, choosing from an ample selection of power foods. Fruits, veggies, lean proteins and fat free dairy.  And still included are the 49 extra points for indulgence or to use on any foods that do not happen to be on the list.

That being said, the above-mentioned indulgence vault has been violated way too early in the week.  Last night I fell off the wagon.  A little, not 49 points worth, I don’t think.  A bag of Reese’s chocolate covered peanut butter Easter eggs somehow found its way into the house (thanks, J.) even before Valentine’s Day, and I succumbed.  Back on track today, though.

  2. Hi Al. But now comes another challenge. This Wednesday they will start taking out old my kitchen so we will be eating most meals out and/or having a lot more take out than is good for us! Hopefully, it won't be more than a couple of weeks :) Take care. Love, Lin
