| Sample Pages From Last Year's Program |
I’ve been working on a fundraiser program and ad book for Devereux New Jersey’s 7th Annual Fundraising Event. I do it every year. The proceeds benefit my son’s vocational program as well a vast network of services provided to adults and children with developmental disabilities. It’s a forty-page, full color book – plus cover. It has running text, letters, auction item descriptions, ads and articles and, I have to say, that even though I am doing this work pro bono, it feels good to be back in the saddle on a project again. Designing page layouts and ads – it’s like coming home.
I have been involved with the fundraising committee for five years and every year it gets better and the donation amounts go up and up, and even in such slow economic times people still have an amazing generosity for our cause. Along with our little parent group (we work together to create the silent auction theme baskets... it’s really fun), there are professional fundraiser-type people and board members involved, and last year, at a fairly hoity-toity shindig, the profits net $50,000. Not too bad, and we get to be dressed up and bid on things like a designer handbag if we are lucky enough to get someone to donate one! Didn't win it last year. I was greatly disappointed; someone must have swooped in at the last minute when my back was turned and signed their thieving name under mine. But, the money goes to a good cause, so I'm glad the bid went up and I hope there will be more handbags this year!
