Joey has been suffering stomach problems for well over a week, and of course, I have chosen to keep him at home for those days. He has had severe diarrhea, which thankfully has fully subsided within the past three days. There were no other symptoms of illness – no loss of appetite, no fever; he has been otherwise fine.
We all know that he normally spends an inordinate amount of time in the bathroom due to all of his rituals, such as adjusting clothing, etc. I am suspect that this may have played a part in his acquiring this recent illness. Always concerned about him touching unclean surfaces (which are unfortunately also part of the rituals) in public rest rooms, and then not effectively washing his hands afterwards, I would like to request that a staff member assess the facilities as he enters a public restroom and then direct him to the cleanest toilet. I would also request that staff oversee his adequate hand washing, as well as additionally apply antibacterial hand sanitizer (which I will be happy to provide – a small bottle will be kept in the front pocket of his lunch box), especially before he eats his lunch. I don’t know what information has been imparted to new staff regarding supervision of Joey in restrooms, and as we have previously discussed, new staff does have a lot to learn about each consumer, but please be sure that they are aware of Joey’s line-of-sight requirement, and of my request to please supervise effective hand washing and application of hand sanitizer.
Thank you!
