Forging Optimistically Ahead Through a Stalled Career

Now here comes the fun part.  Like the careful process of coordinating an outfit of clothing for a special occasion, pulling in the colorful accents and subtle accessories, the new website is about to get some accessorizing as well – matching business cards, postcard direct mailers, letterhead and envelopes, etc.  The whole caboodle.  I always enjoyed doing this part for a client – making the package.

Like an armchair fisherman, on Monday I tossed out a heavy net, hoping for a nibble.  I sent a link for my website to anyone I know who might know someone who might know some who might know someone.  My unlikely first bite came from my neighbor who is part owner of an insurance company.  Would I be interested in attending a women in business networking meeting, called Interconnections for Women, at the end of the month?  Hell, yes.  Good idea, right?  So I registered for it and now I’d better get cracking on the marketing materials.  And I also heard from the graphic designer that I used to work with at my old job.  She generously gave me info on a agency that she has used for temp to permanent jobs in the past and I already received a call (but I was unable to take the position, too short notice and located in Delaware).  And we plan to go to lunch one day. Hope to get more bites as the tide ripples out.

Getting my hopes up is what I do.  It’s me, who I am, and I am not sorry about it in the least.  If I become disappointed in some way, I'll just deal with it and move on.  I am the opposite of my mother, thank goodness, who has all my life tried to instill the concept in me, “Expect the worst, then if something good happens, you’ll be ahead.”  No thanks, mom.  Not for me.
