Weekend Potpourri

One of the costume prize winners...Beetlejuice – sort of.
The busy weekend kicked off with the special needs Halloween dance that my son goes to every year.  He won one of six prizes for his costume – a representation of Beetlejuice.  I wonder if it mattered that his aunt was asked to be one of the judges?

Saturday was a nice day of a morning supermarket visit, afternoon visitors and an evening birthday party.

I was going to write about how much I usually enjoy the late October “Making Strides for Breast Cancer” four-mile fundraiser walk with Joe’s family around Cooper River Park, Pennsauken, New Jersey.  And about how it’s always a beautiful, sunny day, a day dedicated to paying sincere respects to the memory of a lost sister-in-law.  And I do mean these things.  But I missed the exit on my way to meet up for the walk.  So, due to my total lack of a sense of direction, I ended up in practically the murder capital of the world, hyperventilating and cursing my worthless GPS for taking me through these neighborhoods of people hanging out of broken windows and off dilapidated porches on a Sunday morning, staring at a white-knuckled suburban woman driving around in a pink(ish) Lexus, standing out like a stupid sore thumb.  After asking the guy at the Ben Franklin Bridge tollbooth (three times I ended up there) how to get back on track, I decided that it was easier just to go over to Philly and return.  You again, I’m sure he thought.  He rolled his eyes at me when I told him the last time that I graced his booth that I did want to actually cross the bridge.   At least then I knew how to get back to New Jersey and to my destination.  I was about forty-five minutes late.  But it was again a perfect day, sunny and crisp, and I was glad that I made it.

Paperwork at home and pizza for dinner.
